A. Vaidyanathan is currently Emeritus Professor at the Madras Institute of Development Studies (Chennai, India) and is a member of the Prime Minister's Economic Advisory Council. He was educated in Madras, and did his post graduation in the USA. After obtaining a Ph.D from Cornell University, he worked for 6 years (1956-62) as economist in the National Council of Applied Economic Research, New Delhi. Currently he is also Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the Institute of Social Studies Trust, New Delhi.
