There was a time when our environment was indeed a polychromatic and panchromatic spectrum but unfortunately today it is a putrefying corpse, sending out and emitting the most repulsive abominable odour. We are so much obsessed with and possessed of consumerism that our ecosystem has undergone many ramifications and diversification. Its pristine glory and vigour, vitality and utility has been completely lost. The book has been written with a view to impart the latest eco-informatics on "wealth from waste". The book covers solid waste–domestic and agricultural, industrial and medical, plastic and hazardous waste generation and disposal. Ecotechnology envisages resource restoration, pollution control, hydrological modification and wasteland management. Rootzone technology is a low cost technology for effluent treatment, especially beneficial to small towns that cannot afford expensive conventional treatment systems. Micro-cosm technology stimulate in miniature the natural ecosystem to test chemical insult and toxicity of wastes to the environment. Green belt development technology is a viable programme to restore and regenerate vegetative cover and for the creation of environmental balance. Although there have been few duplications in terms of coverage in this festschrift this has been done consciously in order to make each chapter complete so that the reader could read out one separately and independently. It is hoped that this publication would be of reference value, so as to serve the needs of entrepreneurs, engineers, technologists, consultants, financial institutions, researchers and voluntary agencies, as it deals with a wide array of waste to wealth.
