A new Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) regime has ushered all over the world on the establishment of World Trade Organisation (WTO) and the Agreement incorporating the Trade Related Aspects of IPR (commonly known as TRIPS) on the 1st Jan 1995. Amongst the various species of IPR, patent is technologically oriented and a complicated subject. To derive maximum benefits from the patent system, a sound knowledge of the subject is very essential. In India, the knowledge about various aspects of the patent system amongst the cross sections of the public is very limited. Therefore, there is an urgent need to enlighten the various cross sections of the people in the country about the issues relating to patents, more so because the grace period of 10 years offered on signing the WTO agreement has expired with the dawn of the year 2005. This book has been prepared by way of questions and answers with the hope that the complicated subject of Patents will be clearly understood by a common man. The contents of the book is based on the provision of the Patent (Amendment) Ordinance, 2004, which has been brought into force with effect from 1st Jan 2005 thereby establishing Product Patent Regime in the Country.
