White Paper is the collection of Sharankumar Limbale’s poems writtenin Marathi that have been translated into English. The translator, MuktaJagannath Mahajan, has done a wonderful translation the highly symbolic andmetaphoric poems of Limbale.
The Dalit poets of Maharastra from the early 1970s onwards created newliterary textuality by writing fiery poems, short stories, autobiographiesin Marathi, which generated altogether new language and idiom in Indianliterature. It was this Dalit Pather Movement that created waves in the 1970sand 80s. The word Dalit became more and more popular only after thismovement attracted the national attention.
Sharankumar Limbale is the writer and poet in that movement and he hasproduced an outstanding poetic text, in the form of this poetry collection. Inthis book Limbale tells the pain and anger of a Dalits and narrates the Dalitlife in different contexts. Limbale’s poetry has the power of enraging theanger of Dalits and has the energy of inspiring them.
