ABOUT THE AUTHOR M.M. Verma
Born in 1964 at Hardoi (U.P.), Dr. Mahendra Mohan Verma is presently working as reader at the Faculty of Social Work, Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth, Varanasi. Earlier, he was working as Associate Professor at Udaipur School of Social Work, janardan Rai nagar Rajasthan Vidyapeeth (Deemed university), Udaipur. He obtained his Master’s of Doctoral degrees in Social Work from the university of Lucknow, Lucknow. He has a keen interest in the area of tribal development. He conducted his doctoral research on a Study of Concessions, safeguards and development Initiatives for the Welfare of Scheduled Tribes in Uttar Pradesh. Apart from contributing several papers/articles in edited books and reputed journals, he has published a book titled “Tribal development in India†in 1996. Through intensive field work under social work programmes in various tribal villages in the TSP area of Udiapur, he has been constantly involved in awareness campaigns and other developmental activities for tribal emancipation. His other areas of academic interests include, gender and development, population and demography, training and development, human resources management, ageing, labour welfare, social problems and disorganization and the family, etc. Prior to Joining the USSW, Udaipur he was working as research Officer at the Indian Institute of health Management and Research, Jaipur where he successfully completed two research projects in the field of health and family planning sponsored by the Government of Rajasthan, Government of Himachal Pradesh, government of India and the UNFPA. He has also been associated with such reputed institutes as the International Institute for Population sciences, (IIPS), Mumbai; Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Lucknow; Giri Institute of Development Studies, Lucknow, etc. Dr. Verma has widely traveled in India and abroad. He has participated in dozens of international and national seminars/conferences and contributed papers. His papers keep on appearing in edited books and journals. He had been to Finland, Germany, Denmark and Swedan as a part of his academic pursuits. Apart from teaching P.G. students of Social Work, he had also been teaching M.B.A. and M.H.R.M. students at the Institute of Management Studies, JRNRVU, Udaipur. He has also been associated with such professional organizations as ASSWI, NIPM, IAEA, NAPSWI, etc.
