Special programme for farm women implemented so far proved that women will be given access to improved information and resources would increase agricultural production significantly. Farm women have limited command and control over resources and assets equal opportunity and fair share of the returns in the society as well as in the family. Generally, it is argued that, extensions services and training can empower farm women and the technology can equip them to acquire new skills and lessen their drudgery. The present volume is the modest attempt to find out farm women socially, economically and technically. The scientific evaluation of the programme Women in Agriculture for its economic impact on decision making, socio-economic empowerment, increase in farm production and productivity, income and employment generation ad constraints in programmes implementation have been undertaken in detail. The findings and the strategies suggested would facilitate to shape the planning and implementation of future programmes for farm women. The book is also expected to be of great help to students, scholars, policy makers, women activists, development administrators and NGOs working for development of farm women in particular and rural development in general.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR K.P. Wasnik

K.P. Wasnik born in 1959, did his graduation and post graduation form Punjabro Deshmukh Agricultural University, Akola, Maharashtra and obtained Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics f4om Mahatma Phule Agricultural University, Rahuri, Maharastra, India. He served in the Department of Agriculture, Maharastra State for ten years (1985-1995) as a Agricultural Supervisor (Bhandara district), Subject Matter Specialist (Latur District), technical Officer (Aurangabad) and Agricultural Development Officer in the Zilla Parishad, Nagpur. Her joined the Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India, New Delhi in December, 1995 through the Union Public Service Commission. At present, he is a Joint Director in the Directorate of Extension, Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India, New Delhi. On behalf of the Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India, he visited Israel to participate in the course ‘Research and development for senior professionals in India’ during August-September 1998. He has published more than forty articles on rural development, agricultural extension and other allied subjects in many journals, newspapers and magazines.
