Women in Twenty-First Century

The present study focuses on the status and development goals of ‘Women in Twenty-First Century’, besides many challenges before them in the new millennium. The book highlights that the gender equality is a human right and one of the Millennium Development Goals. The UN Millennium Project concluded that reproductive health is essential to achieving the MDGs, including the goal of gender equality. Investments in gender equality and reproductive health offer multiple rewards that can accelerate social and economic progress, with lasting impact on future generations. Feminisation of poverty is a global phenomenon specially in developing nations. Thus, poverty reduction necessarily serve the advancement of gender equality. Current UNDP approaches to poverty reduction also stress the importance of empowerment as a means to address poverty, including tat of women. In linking the promotion of governance to poverty reduction, policy makers have tended to overemphasize participation as an aspect of accountability, rather than of effectiveness and impact. For a long time, the issue of women migrants has been low on the international policy agenda. Today empowerment of women is a global concern. The present study will no doubt prove to be an interesting and valuable reference book concerning ‘Women in the Twenty-First Century.
