This edited volume on "Women Work Participation and Empowerment : Problems and Prospects" is a joint collaboration of twenty-seven papers on different aspects of this important issue which relates with almost 50 per cent population of any country. Women are the worse sufferers of the economic and social problems of any country due to a tendency of sex discrimination towards them and there is a need to focus attention on the evaluation and solution of this problem. Many government policies are being made and implemented for the betterment of women. Their success or failure stories also need examination. Women’s share in the labour market and women’s standing and status in the capital, organisation and entrepreneurship market also demand comparison. This book is an effort in these directions. The book will be useful to all those, who are in any way interested and involved in women studies and policies for the betterment and upliftment of women workers in India and elsewhere. Such studies develop awareness towards problems and creates prospects for their betterment, if not solution.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR K.D. Gaur
Dr. Keshav Dev Gaur (born 1950) is presently serving as Deputy Director, Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), New Delhi. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from University of Rajasthan Jaipur. Dr. Gaur, who has had a distinguished academic career which combines research, management and planning, has several research publications to his credit and currently engaged in researches in social sciences.

Dr. (Mrs.) S. Murty is presently Professor and Head of Economics Department in Vikram University, Ujjain. Twenty-four research scholars have been awarded Ph.D. under her guidance. Dr. Murty visited the United Kingdom under Young Scientist Exchange Scheme between India and the U.K. She has worked as Academic visitor in London Schools of Economics and Political Science, where she was accorded the status of Academic staff. She has been in Oxford, Cambridge, Lancaster, Leicester and Wales Universities. She has also visited the U.S.A., Italy and West Germany. Dr.Murty's name has been included inmany international directories and biographies. She has publsiehd a project on "Employment Generation by SBI," and is working on a UGC Project on "Status of SC Women". She has also directed a survey on "Child Survival and Safe Motherhood Programme" in Ujjain district sponsored by "World Health Organisation".
