In the contemporary time gender Equality and Women Empowerment are no longer considered supplementary but central to the practice of development. With increasing awareness of the subordinate status of women, the concept of gender has emerged as an overreaching political, economic, social variable seen in relation to other factors such as race, religion, class, age and ethnicity. Professor Anjali Gandhi and other eminent contributors, all with a wide range of academic and practical experience in their articles have critically analyzed the existing dilemmas and complexities and expressed their viewpoint in varied issues concerning women in the context of our creating resource material on various topics related to women.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR Anjali Gandhi
Anjali Gandhi is Professor of Social Work at Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi. She is a leading social Work educator who has contributed significantly in the sphere of women, education and health. She has authored several; books and has written intensively on gender aspects if health and disease focusing on leprosy. Coronary heart disease and AIDs. Besides contribution articles in books, journals and newspapers, she has made numerous presentations at the Human Rights Commission since 1998. Often invited by various governmental and non-governmental agencies to lead gender-related project, her valuable suggestions in conferences, panel discussions and committees have led to important policy formulations. She is currently Honorary Directo5r, Sarojini Naidu center for Women’s Studies at Jamia Millia Islamia.
