Women constitute nearly half of total population of the country. Therefore, the development of the country is not possible without the development of this vast segment. For centuries women in India are suffering due to discrimination, exploitation and exposed to various kinds of harassment at various levels. Empowerment of women implies process by which women’s power of self-organisation is promoted and reinforced, they develop the capacity for self-reliance out crossing the relationship of subordinates on account of gender, social and economic status and society. Technological advances have meant the decline of employment in manufacturing, and the growing dominance of service industries. This has meant more jobs for women, but not necessarily better working conditions. Most women are still in lower-paid jobs, and most still work mainly with other women in similar jobs and fields. Women are still under-represented in many sectors of industry, the professions and public service. This book will prove very useful and helpful for women’s organisations, policy makers planners, administrators, students, teachers and research scholars engaged in the field.
