There is quite a dearth of literature of working women in the third world countries including India. Indian women have come a long way and have been able to establish their identity and share in the decision-making process of society in general and family in particular. However, the manifold problems that they are faced with and the secondary status that they are delegated to make them socially dependent in spite of their status of a wage earner. Added to this it is a burden of ‘double shifts’. They adopt many strategies and ways to cope with them. Author has tried to explore the problem with the help of primary data collected from a cross-section of working women in Jaipur city. It is hoped that the book will prove to be of immense use to the students of the discipline. The study will also work towards sensitizing society to women’s issues. This may generate related issues for further study and research. This book offers a conceptual frame work that characterizes the field.
