The Atharva Veda is also known as ‘Bhaishajya Veda’ because its hymns contain much of the traditional medical knowledge of that era. Some interesting aspects of the way medical knowledge is presented are: anatomical descriptions occur only when diseases are described; physiological descriptions figure usually with anatomy; and curative properties of medicinal herbs are always linked to diseases.
