Delhi has overgrown in the last 50 years and so has grown the importance of planning of this metropolitan city. The process of planning in Delhi started in the year 1955 with the setting up of Delhi Development Authority (Provisional which would check the haphazard growth in the city. However, in reality, other factors also played important role in shaping the urban landscape of the city.
The intention of the master Plan for Delhi 2021 is to re-organise the urban forces and patterns again so that Delhi becomes a more livable city. The objective of this publication which is a presentation of the Master Plan for Delhi 2021 as notified by the Govt. of India is to promote understanding and participation of the residents of Delhi in the constructive implementation of the planning process. It has been our effort to present the basic document of Master Plan in a way, by providing detailed contents and a comprehensive subject index, that it is easy to comprehend by a lay man.
Soon, we intend to bring another publication giving detailed description and analysis of the Master Plan for Delhi 2021 by experts. We hope, this would help create awareness and constructive interest among the residents of Delhi about their own city as well as encourage research on the urban planning in Delhi.
