This handbook has been written with an aim to serve as a ready reference for the officers of the Indian Army who would like to know something about their legal rights and responsibilities. ABOUT THE AUTHOR U C Jha

The author, Wing Commander (Dr) U C Jha, has extensive field and academic experience in international humanitarian law (IHL). He has been teaching the subject since a decade and is a resource person for the South Asian Teaching Sessions in IHL, conducted by the International Committee of the Red Cross. He has worked as a consultant (legal) to the National Human Rights Commission, New Delhi. His work comprises six books and over 60 articles published in various journals and newspapers.The author has 24 years of commissioned service in the Indian Air Force and was a Wing Commander when he took voluntary retirement. He holds a Ph D degree in Law and Governance from Jawaharlal Nehru University. He also holds a master's degree in law, life sciences, business administration, and defence and strategic studies, in addition to post graduate diplomas in intellectual property law, environmental law, international humanitarian law, refugee law and human rights law.
