The four yearly Symposia on Earthquake Engineering (SEE) organised regularly at the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee (formerly University of Roorkee) since 1959, have been among the most important forums in India for discussions on research and advancements in earthquake engineering. Offering a flavor of the important event, as it proved to be, this publication (in two vols.) compiles the full and illustrated text of over 125 research and scientific presentations of the 14 SEE-2010, dealing with various major areas of earthquake engineering including structural dynamics, soil dynamics, engineering seismology, instrumentation, earthquake prediction and assessment, microzonation, and others. The included papers have been thematically classified and placed in the book under an array of sections for geoscientists and geoengineers over the world, the publication has a high reference value.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR Ashwani Kumar
Ashwani Kumar, a Congress Party member of Rajya Sabha from Punjab, and Chairman, AICC Vichar Vibhag, is a practicing Senior Advocate at the Supreme Court and was appointed Additional Solicitor General of India in 1990 at the age of 37. He has appeared before the Court in landmark cases which include the Bhopal Gas case, the Gujarat Presidential Reference case and the recently decided Electoral Reforms case. At 33, he first represented India as a non-official member of the Indian Delegation to the UN General Assembly in1986 and later again in 1996. Ashwani Kumar ahs also served as a Spokesperson of the Congress Party and as member of the Congress Party's Economic Policy Introspection Group. He has travelled extensively and was as Visiting Fellow at the Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in Washington. He has also lectured at the University of Nice. He is currently a member of the Standing Committee of Parliament on Commerce and has also served as a member of the Standing Committee of Parliament on Energy. Ashwani Kumar is the son of Late Prabodh Chandra, a veteran freedom fighter, distinguished parliamentarian and Congress leader from Punjab.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR M.L. Sharma
Dr. M.L. Sharma (born on 3rd September, 1942) is presently working as Principal Shri Bhawani Niketan College, Jaipur and had a long (35 years) teaching and administrative experience. Dr. Sharma graduated from University of Rajasthan, Jaipur, did his M.A. in Geography from University of Udaipur in 1966 with first division and Ph.D. from University of Rajasthan. Hailing from a small remote village of Phagi Tehsil, District, Jaipur. Dr. Sharma joined as a lecturer in Geography in a Government College in July, 1966. Dr. Sharma published six books and 70 research papers in the reputed national journals. Apart from the academic achievements, he served as N.C.C. officer (Major) and Leader Trainer (Rover scouting) and guided the youth in becoming good citizens. He is also a life member of N.A.G.I. R.G.A., I.I.G. and Rajasthan State Bharat Scout and Guides. Besides, he has organised a number of geographical conferences, seminars and published souvenirs.
