ABOUT THE AUTHOR Vidyavati

Prof. (Mrs.) Vidyavati, former Vice chancellor, Kakatiya University, Warangal, was awarded Ph.D. (Osmania) in the year 1967 under the able guidance of Prof. M.R. Suxena and Prof. Jafar Nizam. She has Head and also Chairperson, Board of Studies in Botany, Kakatiya University. She received training in the field of Algal Cytology, Genetics and Ultrastructure. She got more than 30 years of research experience in the field of phycology. She has contributed more than 200 papers in the national and International journals and also published 4 books. She has guided nearly 20 Ph.D. and 2 M.Phil students so far. She has attended various National and International seminars, symposia, conferences (more than about 100 abstracts) and invited as a resource person for various workshops and orientation courses. She has also attended the British Phycological meeting held at Liverpool, United Kingdom. She has been on the Advisory board for various scientific bodies and also nominated as fellow of Indian Botanical Society and fellow, Society for Plant Research. She did Post-doctoral research as a Commonwealth Academic Staff Fellow at Royal Holloway and Bedford College, university of London, U.K. with Prof. J.D. Dodge and under Indo-Czech Cultural Exchange programme with Dr. J. Sulek at the Institute of Microbiology, trebon, Czechoslovakia. She also visited various Institutions at Oxford, reading, Cambridge, France and Czechoslovakia. She was Associate editor of J. Aquatic Ecosystem health (USA) and is now Executive member of Phycological Society and on the editorial borad of seaweed research and Utilization and nature and Biosphere.
