The volume, based on the proceedings of a national seminar on security, examines economic and security challenges in the dynamic Asia-Pacific Region. Pointing out that despite economic integration and strategic dialogue, there is mistrust and challenges of reconciling national interests which could jeopardise cooperation and growth, it examines the linkages between trade and commerce, energy, environment, maritime issues and geopolitics, strategy and security. It probes questions relating to co-opting multilateral agendas into the bilateral sphere, impact of the economic scenario in the region on global trade, the need for a new security architecture involving politico-military players, scientists and experts from non-traditional security fields. It throws light on food security issues, sustainable use of natural resources especially water, and environmental pollution. It looks at the challenges in the space and cyber domain and questions whether comprehensive security can exist without cooperative security.
