This English translation of Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras seeks to explain the art and science of traditional Yoga meditation for self-realization. Describing the meaning and nature of Yoga and the means to attain Samadhi, it discusses at length the Kriya Yoga (yoga of selfless action) and Ashtanga Yoga (Eight-fold Yoga).
It further explains the technique to attain supra-normal powers (siddhi) by the practice of yoga. Finally, it describes the process of emancipation or liberation, which is used interchangeably with moksha that is the ultimate goal of yoga. It contains original text in Sanskrit, along with its meaning in English and a detailed commentary.
