Culture occupies an important place in the development of a nation. The rich cultural heritage of India, characterized by its diversities and sustained over thousands of years, has placed on the modern state a vital responsibility to strive for its continuity as well as its further enrichment. The present volume Indian Culture: Tradition and Continuity is a modest attempt to document the activities of the various cultural institutions guided and supported by the Government of India. This volume is divided into ten sections in which institutions are situated according to their orientations.
