PESTS still account for about 35 per cent loss of agricultural yield notwithstanding losses due to heavy application of chemicals. Biointensive integrated pest management, in which greater emphasis is given to biocontrol, is perhaps, the need of the hour for tackling many such situations, research efforts concentrated on identifying more effective and specific identifying more effective and specific bioagents suitable under adverse and different environmental conditions for specific crops are enumerated in this book. The book, Plant Protection – A Biocontrol Approach, provides a comprehensive and critical review of the work done on the management of various pests having special emphasis on the biocontrol management practices. Chapters converieng information on bioactivity of plants against pests, diseases of onion, wheat, groundnut, pulses and sorghum and their management, use of bioagents against pests, fungi as herbicides and biocontrol of post-harvest diseases have been included to project their importance in the present scenario. Chapters cover information on antimicrobial properties of spices, plant parasitic nematodes of pulses and bacteria in the management of plant parasitic nematodes. Aspects covering application of AM fungi in sustainable agriculture and polyamine synthesis inhibitors in the management of fungi have been specially included to project their use in the twenty-first century. Comprehensive account of basic studies of fungi, namely, taximetrics and its application to fungal taxa, concepts and patterns of conidium and conidiogenous cell development Deuteromycetes and powdery mildews fungi throw light on the subject. The detailed account on a wide variety of topics on Plant Protection will be useful to researchers, teachers and students of Plant Pathology, Botany and Agriculture.
