Animal and Plant scientists have generated important technologies relating to different aspects of forage and animal production systems. IN the present-day scenario of animal agriculture, where animal production is dependent on available land resources, it was imperative to compile details of the relevant technologies at one place so that farmers, students and extension workers could apply them and derive full benefit. Sustainable Animal Production is the result of this long-felt need and comprises chapters on the livestock and feed situation, grazing resources, grassland and pasture management systems in different agro-climatic conditions, intensive fodder production and pasture production from degraded land, problematic soils and watersheds. There are also chapters on forage conservation, improvement of low-grade roughages and utilization of non-conventional feed resources. In view of the prevailing drought of several continuous years in the country, a chapter on nutrition of animals during drought has been specially included. Besides, there are chapters on anti-nutritional factors in top feeds and gastrointestinal nematodiasis. Thus, it is evident that the book is comprehensive and every effort has been made to include the latest state-of-the-art technologies and practices. It will surely be of immense help to all those involved in animal production and forage systems.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR R C Jakhmola
Dr. Ramesh C Jakhmola is Principal Scientist (Animal Nutrition) at the Central Shheep and Wool Research Institute, Avikanagar, Rajasthan. After completing his M.Sc. in Animal Nutrition (1974) from the G.B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar, he was awarded a Commonwealth Scholarship for a doctorate from Aberdeen University (1989) where he worked under the renowned animal nutritionist, Prot. J.F.D. Greenhalgh. He was selected for the Agricultural Research Service (ICAR) in 1977. He has served in different capacities at the Indian Veternary Research Institute, Izatnagar, AICRP Agricultural Byproducts at Ajabalpur, Karnal and Hisar and ata the National Research Centre on Camels, Bikaner. He was selected Head, Division of Animal Nutrition, at CSWRI, Avikanagar, a post he held from 1996 to 2002. He has authored two books: Forages and Livestock Production and Analytical Techbiques in Animal Nutrition Research. He has published more than 100 research papers in national and international journals of repute.

Rajinder Kumar Jain, (M.A., Ph.D.) was a Professor of Mathematics at the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi. Presently, Dr. Jain is a Professor of Mathematics in the Department of Applied Sciences, Manav Rachna College of Engineering, Faridabad, Haryana. Dr. Jain`s research specialisation is Numerical Analysis. He has a large number of research publications in National and International Journals of repute in the area of Numerical Analysis. He is a coauthor of a number of books on Numerical Analysis and Advanced Engineering Mathematics. Dr. Jain worked as visting faculty at the University of Saskatchewan, Canada; Cranfield Institute of Technology, U.K. and RMIT, Australia.
