ABOUT THE AUTHOR A.S. Basra

A.S. Basra, PhD, is an eminent plant physiologist at the Punjab Agricultural University in Ludhiana, India. He is currently a visiting scientist at the University of California, Davis, USA. His outstanding work on seed quality and cotton fiber quality has been internationally recognized. Dr. Basra has more than 80 research publication to his credit, and is the lead editor of 11 books on topical subjects in plant/crop science. He is the Founding Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Crop Production and the Journal of New Seed (Food Products Press). He is a member of the American Society of Plant Biologists, the American Association for the Advancement of Sciences, the American Institute of Biological Sciences, the New York Academy of Sciences, the Australian Society of Plant Physiologists, the American Society for Horticultural Science, and the International Society of Horticultural Science. A decorated scientist who has received several coveted awards and honors, Dr. Basra has made scientific visits to several countries fostering cooperation in agricultural research at the international level.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR L.S. Randhawa

L.S. Randhawa, PhD, is a plant breeder with Sutter Seeds of Yuba City, California. Previously, he has worked as Professor of plant Breeding at the Punjab Agricultural University in Ludhiana, India; as Head of the Central Institue for Cotton Research, Regional Station in Sirsa, India; and as Commonwealth Academic Staff Fellow at the University of Nottingham in the United Kingdom. He has developed 7 varieties and 2 hybrids of cotton hybrid, LHH 144. He has been invited to present papers at 19 national and international conferences including World Cotton Research Conference I (Brisbane, Australia) and II (Athens, Greece). Dr. Randhawa has also served as Co-Chair of the Asian Cotton Research and Development Association of the International Cotton Advisory Committee and as a member of its working group on Cotton Biotechnology.
