The aim of this book is to make available to the students and to the general reader investigations which are representative of the modern experimental treatment of important topics concerning personality traits of the blind. The book gives a general picture of the personality, concepts, theories, types, traits, assessment, various perspectives on blindness, national and international studies on blindness and a comparative analysis of the blind versus sighted duly matched on number of variables. Dr. S.R. Mittal has been careful to present with accuracy the factural material based on representative, adequate and valid matched sample and scientific research design. The book further attempts to analyse the problem of the blind versus the sighted and implication of blindness in human environment affecting persons with visual impairment and its impact on the community alike. The book is the first attempt of its kind in India having implications for 16 million visually impaired persons.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR S.R. Mittal
Born in October, 1949, Dr. S.R. Mittal, obtained his Master’s degree in English from Meerut University, Master’s in Education from Delhi University and Ph.D. in Education from Garhwal University. He has been working in the field of Special Education for more than two decades. He is presently working as reader in Institute of Advanced Studies in Education in the Faculty of Education, Jamia Millia Islamia, a Central University established by an Act o Parliament. He attended, participated and presented papers in several conferences conducted by national and international organizations. He has also published several articles and research papers in leading journals on Special Education. He is a member of several national organizations for the blind and the visually impaired people. Dr. S.R. Mittal is on the panel of experts of the Rehabilitation Council on India. He has been guiding Master’s level and Ph.D. level students on topics relating to the education of children with visual impairment.
