Revolt of 1857 brought about radical changes in Military System of the British Rule in India. East India Company rule was abolished. India became colony of the crown. The troops in the service of the company were transferred into the service of the crown. Thus was born the army in India. aim of this work is to see as to how and why the size, strength, armament and equipment of the army in India underwent changes during the period from Royal proclamation of August 1858 to 1947. In preparing this work we have increased gratitude and indebtness of the authorities on the subject whose works we have included in this compilation work.
