This book presents a manual on Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) for application in the field of agriculture and animal husbandry. Providing basic and practical understanding PRA method including its features, principles, steps, guidelines and types, it offers guidelines for using major PRA tools under four categories–space analysis, time analysis, seasonal analysis and matrix analysis. Also, the manual provides steps for participatory planning on the basis of collected information in respect of identification and prioritization of problems, problem cause analysis, identification of intervention points and their possible alternative solutions. The book will be useful for students, researchers and extension workers involved in rural development.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR Shagufta Jamal
Dr. Shagufta Jamal is professor and Head, Department of Adult & Continuing Education & Extension, Jamia Millia Islamia - Central University, New Delhi. She worked as Research Associate in Ford Foundation funded project at G.B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar. She also worked at Indian veternary Research Institute, Izatnagar in the Division of Extension Education. She has been honoured with the Young Scientist Award in 1998 and ISEE Fellow National Award in 2003 by Indian Society of Extension Education. She has written 4 books, namely, Women in Dairy Development, Technology Integration through Agro-Eco System Analysis, Participatory Rural Appraisal- A Training Manual and Environment Perception of Slum Dwellers and over four dozens of research papers in national and international journals.
