The present work gives a very comprehensive coverage of its subject matters, namely Phonology and Morphology of Panjabi. Part One: Phonology deals at great length with the phonemes of the language, their phonetic description, distribution, their clustering habits and sandhi rules or morphophonemics. Both the segmental and suprasegmental phonemes are listed and discussed at length. Part Two: Morphology deals with both derivation and inflection. After a classification of morphemes and morphs into various classes, the morphological word is discussed, followed by classes of stems leading to derivation and compound formation. Suffixes of derivation are listed with their meanings and numerous examples. There is hardly any topic within its scope that it has not treated at length and in minute detail. It is a first ever attempt at analysis of Panjabi intonation or phrase melody into its phonological constituents. Its exemplary thoroughness is certain to make a significant contribution to a systematic knowledge of the Panjabi language. It will be of great interest to everyone concerned whether with Panjabi language or with general linguistics.
