Protest in Post-Independence Indian English Fiction

The book is in link with protest literature in colonial countries. It highlights the theme of protest – political, social and independence Indian English fiction. Political campaign is manifested not only against the Raj but against the post independence internal misrule. The social dogmas and evils prevalent in every class have been defied and challenged. A ‘new morality’ has been advocated by the ‘weaker sex’. They question unequal laws and customs which hinder their growth as an individual. Their protest is ‘Cathartic’. It is a way of ridding the society and self of all negatory evils. Their protest is expressed through different modes viz violent, non-violent existential, psychological etc. both at individual and collective levels. The books gives a comprehensive view of the representative work of many eminent Indian English authors like K.A. Abbas, M. Malgonkar, Chaman Nahal, M.R. Anand, B. Bhattacharya, R.P. Jhabvala, Anita Desai, Khuswant Singh and others. Also, a brief comparison with writers of colonial countries has been made to highlight their racial segregation and struggles.
