The Present work examines extensively the concepts of violence and non-violence especially covering the past and the present scenario with various historical events and illustrations. It also provides an excellent commentary on Gandhi’s understanding and interpretation of non-violence, his approach and methods of application, its efficacy and practibility in the present context. Besides, this work has included an interaction with Gandhian scholars, prominent personalities and others to ascertain their opinions about the viability and efficacy of non-violence to counteract the ill-effects of violence all over the world. Gandhi has been recognized as an apostle of peace and non-violence and the author in this work has very ably and successfully tried to examine this significant issue keeping in view the status and future of non-violence in the 21st century.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR Manish Sharma
Dr. Manish Sharma has a brilliant career. He in first class graduate from P.U., Chandigarh with Hons. In Public Administration. He did his Pst-Graduation ion Gandhian and Peace Studies,standing first class first and was awarded University Medal and Ph.D. from Panjab University, Chandigarh. He has been on the Guest Faculty at the Department of Gandhian Studies, Panjab University, Chandigarh. He has published a number of research papers in journals of repute. Her has attended and organized a large number of Seminars/ Campus/Conferences and Conventions in India and Abroad and contributed very valuable pares there. He was awarded College Colour and won a large number of prizes in Debates, Declamation Contests, Essay Writing Competitions and other activities at national and college levels during his studentship. He is a also the recipient of President’s Award in Bharat Scouts and Guides (Nov. 6, 1995). He is a life member of the Indian Society of Gandhian Studies. He was awarded J.R.F. by Indian Council of Historical Research, New Delhi. Presently, he is teaching at the Department of Gandhian Studies, Panjab University, Chandigarh.
