Jayanta Mahapatra (b. 1928) is one of the leading contemporary Indian poets writing in English. His sphere of pursuits is very wide. The Indian Imagination of Jayanta Mahapatra critically examines various themes in the works of jayanta Mahapatra. It is a compilation of critical articles of reputed scholars of Jayanta Mahapatra’s works. This book is probably the first book that critically assesses almost all aspects of Jayanta Mahapatra’s Work. His strength is derived from bilingualism. This edited book on Mahapatra contains an article on his Oriya writings. His prose works often complete the circle and turn in themselves in such a manner that their form becomes the meaning with which they are haunted. This anthology of studied articles is not all about his poems. In addition, there is Jaydeep Sarangi’s interesting interview with him. Since Jayanta Mahapatra has lived all along in Tinkonia Bagicha, Cuttack, his sensibility has been shaped by the socio-Cultural heritage of his native land in particular and India in general. The analysis reveals that the works of Mahapatra are steeped in an imagination, which is truly Indian.

Gauri Shankar Jha, teaches English at Indira Gandhi Govt. College, Tezu (Arunachal Pradesh). He has published research articles in different National/International journals. He is the Secretary of the Writers and Writings (a literary forum dedicated to creativity and criticism). He edits Reflections, poesy (poems), Martha (stories), Spectrum (interdisciplinary) and Charcha (Hindi creative and Critical writing). His two books on Indian English Literature are in press. His areas of Interest are: American literature, Indian Writing in English, English Language Teaching and Australian literature. He has been awarded with ‘Associateship’ from IIAS, Shimla (H.P.).
ABOUT THE AUTHOR Jaydeep Sarangi
Jaydeep Sarangi teaches English at Seva-Bharti Mahavidyalaya (Vidyasagar University), Midnapur (W.B.). He has been working for the UGC Research Project on Contemporaray Indian Englishg Poets. His publications include three full-length books: An Introduction to Linguistics and Applied Linguistics (second edd. 2004), Indian Novels in English: A Sociolinuistic Study (2005), An Introduction to English Language Teaching (2005). His areas of interest are: Indian Writing in English, Sociolinguistics, ELT and Australian poetry. He edits three research journals in English. He is one of the executive members of the Indian Association for Commonwealth Literature and Language Studies (IACLALS).
