India’s culture is braod and many-sided and, though encyclopaedic works are available on the subject, no book of a medium size has been there for the general intelligent reader: The present work was planned and published several years ago during the Tagore Centenary Year; which made a part of the Tagore Centenary Volume, consisting of another work on Rabindra Nath Tagore. Published under the ‘Woolner Indological Series’ of the famous V.V. Research Institute, Hoshiarpur; Pb., with a foreword by the then Minister of Education, Govt. of India, Prof. Humayun abir-and edited by Mahendra ulasrestha, English Editor of the Institute at the time-it had contributions on most aspects of Indian culture by well known authorities in their respective areas. It formed a balanced and readable compendium on the hoary subject for the general reader; and was much commended for the reason. Several universities in America accepted it as suggested reading. It is being revived for the modern reader whose need of knowing about various aspects of Indian culture is increasing every passing day.
