The annual national Security Lecture conducted by the united service Institution of India dealt with “Social Dimensions of Militancy in the Northeast: Small Causes, Large effectsâ€. The speaker, Lieutenant general V K Nayyar, PVSM, SM (Retd), who is a former Governor of Manipur, spoke n the complexities of the region. He focused on the political, economic, social and ethnic dimensions of the militant uprisings. The theme of the National Security Seminar 2005 was “Economic Globalisation and India’s Security.: rapid transnational flow of labour, goods, capital and information impinge on national security. The major features of economic globalisation, strong points and susceptibilities of the Indian economy on India’s economic security as part of comprehensive national security and measures needed to meet the challenges were the issues discussed. The “Crisis in Nepal: Implications for India†have been deliberated upon by Major General Ashok Mehta, AVSM (Retd) in the national security Paper. He has traced the trajectory of the Maoist uprising in Nepal, and the help rendered by India. Nepal is contiguous to the Indo-Gangetic plains and spill-over of insurgency into India can have its adverse effects.
