The study of lichenology has gained widespread attention and impetus all over the world in recent times. In India, lichens were studied from time immemorable. The abundance and diversity of lichens in tropical and subtropical parts of the world differs very little from those of temperate regions. The former has abundance of crustose lichens, and the latter has richness in foliose and fruticose lichens. Potential areas of research has brought great triumph to global recognition for lichen studies. It tens to be the lichen biotechnology, biomonitering levels of pollutants in air, weathering of rocks and soil formation. Lichens are now being used in perfumery and medicine industries. The present book is dedicated entirely tolichen systematics and opens up a new geographical location of this country for lichen source. The language is simple, lucid and supplemented by well drawn illustrations, keys and photographs. This book will be of immense help to students, researchers, monographers, who intend to pursue the study of lichenology and will prove as a helpful reference book.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR J.L. Tarar
Dr. J.L. Tarar, the former Head, Department of Environmental Science, Institute of Science, Nagpur, made noteworthy contributions to the field of Botany and Environment. One hundred thirty-six research papers have been published in National and International Journals. He guided over 25 students for their Ph.D. Programme. Travelled widely in India and abroad, Dr. Tarar chaired International Conferences and organised quite a few. He is the Chairman of Global Ecofriendly Environmental Management Society (GEEMS).

Dr. S. Muthukumar received his Ph.D. in Botany (Lichenology) from Rashtra Sant Tukdoji Maharaj Nagar University, Nagpur in 2000. He was a scientist at National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEER), Nagpur. Presently, he is pursuing research on Lichens of Marathwada Region. He has contributes 30 research papers in National and International Journals. He is the member of International Lichenological Society, New York and Bryological Society, London. He is also an international Inspector in Organic Certification Programme for ECOCERT SA, Germany.
