ABOUT THE AUTHOR Pandit Pearay Mohan

When Pt. Pearay Mohan Dattatreya died on 23rd Decembt, 1936, at Lahore at the young age of 41, The Hindustan Times of Delhi called him â€œa great journalistâ€. Son of the distinguished Urdu and Persian scholar and poet, Pt. Brij Mohan Dattatreya â€œKaifiâ€, Pearay Mohan was born in 1895. After leaving school, he joined the Government College, Lahore from where he graduated in 1915. A brilliant student, he took his law degree in 1917. But soon after the publication of his book on Martial Law in Punjab, he joined The Tribune in November 1920 and by sheer dint of ability rose to become senior assistant editor of the paper. A staunch nationalist and patriot, he was connected with Congress and many other organizations. At the time of his untimely death at the age of 41, he was contemplating to seek election to the Provincial Assembly on the Congress ticket.
