An Agonising Analysis of Pakistan’s Political Malaise Pakistan since its inception has been riven by divisions, chaos and confusion, but today it stands on the brink of a bitter constitutional and political crisis which has assumed threatening proportions. The current critical situation started with the suspension of the Supreme Court’s Chief Justice in March, 2007 and with the assault on LAL MASJID in Islamabad. Then on November 4, 2007, came the emergency which again produced serious constitutional and political ripples across the country. Prior to that we have had the dissolution of national assemblies, breakup of state institutions and takeover by the generals. Since then uncertainties and upheavals have been a regular feature of our national life. As student of political science we have been watching the developments with serious concern and wondering how to resolve the crises that have hindred the process of development in the country. As my contribution to the resolution of crises I have written the above book which may be viewed as a deep, detailed analysis of the causes and conditions that threaten the structure of the state and suppress the spirit of its citizens. Pakistan’s people are proud and patriotic and love their country from the core of heart. However, it is abysmally dismal that crises and uncertainties should shatter their confidence in their confidence in their own country and leadership. It is high time that as nation we adopt a correct course of action and avert the chaos that confronts us from all corners. In this book we have tried to present the facts, without any bias or prejudice, in proper perspectives, so that the leaders, lawyers and common people of our country could pool their resources to resolve the crises. With tolerance and excellence, intellect and enlightenment we can undoubtedly face the challenges. President Musharraf himself has been in the forefront in restoring the democratic institutions and giving the press and people freedom of expression. He has also suggested that the concept of enlightenment is the best course which, no doubt, no sane person can contradict. It is in the light of these virtues that the present crises need to be resolved. Any backward moves will not be in the best interests of the state. We have to see that our state does not fail and our people are not despaired. Our book confirms the value which must be imbibed to avert the crises which threaten our existence. They must be based on rational and balanced perception and realistic appraisal of the conditions that otherwise lead to degeneration and disintegration. As the "practical expression of uncertainties" it is an excruciating experience that makes us conscious of our deficiencies. Hopefully this book may serve as a new introduction to the dynamic dimension of our national life and as the consummation of our historical existence.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR Iqbal S. Hussain
Dr. Iqbal Syed Hussain is a writer and author of international repute. Educated at Local and European universities he has worked over the past three decades in Germany and England in different creative capacities ranging from research and communications. Currently working for the Cambridge University, UK, and attached to the Governing Body of Longford Grammar School in London, the author remains productively engaged in a series of creative activities both at home and abroad. As chairman of an Islamic research institute he remains in constant touch with discoveries and developments taking place in the world of sciences and humanities. Islamic and western civilizations are the special Ares of his interest, which add new dimensions to his creative output and intellectual curiosity. Conflicts and clashes emanating from varying international developments are of crucial importance in context of crucial importance in context of contemporary social, cultural and political environments. Concerned with the gravity of these issues the author has undertaken writing a series of books, which deal with events and environments that affect human life in one way or the other. The idea is to provide adequate information about ISLAM specially to the readers and policy makers in the West and warn of the dangers that any faulty perceptions could pose to the peace and amity in the world. His latest book “Islam & The Clash of Civilizations†is a monumental work in this direction. His other books have also been written with this idea in mind. Among his best known books are: “Islam & And Western Civilizations†“The Quaran & Modermismâ€, “Terrorism in Action: Why Blame Islam?†and “The Decline of the Muslim Ummahâ€. All these books have been written from the Islamic perspectives and contribute largely towards removing misunderstandings, which seem to have badly tarnished the image of Islam in the West.
