These letters belong to a period which was most precarious in the Islamic History. It was full of turmoil and trial. In those perilous and troublesome days Hadrat Ali wrote these letters to his governors, commanders and companions. The bitterness of those days can be easily seen in these letters. Hadrat Ali was a very cool minded, erudite, wide and patient person. His decisions as a judge were most judicious and thought provoking. His personal life was very forgiving, forbearing and benevolent. Some of his qualities have been reflected in this book with full references.
