The IT revolution and the social changes in the last two decades have created new literary needs for writers and publishers. Editors of all standard style books have responded to these needs by updating their manuals. But their voluminous manuals appear too forbidding – in terms of both cost and complexity – to young scholars. What they need is a handbook which would offer them some easy-to-follow guidance on writing scholarly papers. Critical Thinking and Planned Writing is an attempt to meet this need by placing in the hands of young scholars an affordable hand book which contains enough instructions to achieve their goals. It emerges from the fifteen-year-long teaching experience of the authors. Following the classical rules of critical thinking and the directions offered in the 15th edition of The Chicago Manual of Style, it offers guidance to young scholars in humanities and social sciences on writing scholarly papers.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR Augustine Perumalil
Augustine Perumalil is a professor of philosophy at Satya Nilayam, Chennai. He has done his PhD from Punjab University, Chandigarh, specializing in philosophy of religion and postdoctoral research in Loyola University, Chicago. He has authored four books and a good number of articles in various national and international journals. He is currently the director of Satya Nilayam Research Institute (affiliated to University of Madras) and the editor of Satya Nilayam, Chennai Journal of Intercultural Philosophy, a semiannual published in collaboration with the Vienna Society for Intercultural Philosophy.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR E.P. Mathew
E.P. Mathew is a lecturer in the Department of Philosophy, Loyola College, Chennai. He completed his PhD from Pondicherry University and postdoctoral research from Boston College, USA. Apart from teaching general courses in philosophy, he has specific interest in environmental philosophy and hermeneutics. He is currently working on two projects, ecological thinking, and hermeneutics and multiculturalism.
