The treatise on "Global Tea Trade: Dimensions and Dynamics" not only concentrates on the mechanisms involved in production and marketing, and exports of tea for major tea producing countries of the world, but also highlights import pattern and re-exports of tea in non-tea producing countries. First of all the Indian tea trade issues has been discussed and dealt elaborately in the book. The China’s Pue’r tea that has miraculous functions like nutritive, pharmacological and health giving properties, digesting and appetizing powers has given an added dimension. These qualities of Pue’r tea has been tasted in National Research Institute for Health and Medicine (NRIHM) at France. Sri Lanka and Kenya Tea Industries have combined to the well coordinated marketing strategies, product diversifications, and new markets, strengthening of research, other uses of tea, and some useful lesson for tea. Tea trade in Bangladesh and Iran refers to growth variables like area, production, yield and exports spanning over 57 years. Quality depends upon consumer needs and value added teas. Japanese green tea, it’s processing technology, manufacturing of refined tea, liquid tea market and retail ready black tea have been dwelt upon. Tea trades in Canada and Poland reveal that India has to further explore the possibility of evolving suitable schemes through which larger quantities of tea could be exported to these countries. The re-appraisal of the United Kingdom Tea Council in the light of first UK Tea Convention has been put into place. The tea image and promotion, specialty tea, decaffeinated tea, catering tea grading scheme, solid quality base are some of the aspects that have been recommended. The trade in United States of America dwells upon the major areas of concern like assured quality, value added teas, medicinal values of the herb. Further, elaborate discussions have been attempted on the profile of tea economy of South America, which covers Chile, Argentina, Mexico, Guyana, Brazil, Peru, Colombia etc., with reference to growth variables like area, production, yield and exports. Further, tea trades in Mauritius, China, Taiwan, Indonesia, Mozambique, Rhodesia, Malawi, Turkey, Australia and Vietnam have been put into place.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR G.D. Banerjee
Gangadhar Banerjee (YoB-1950), M A (Eco), Phd (Eco), LLB served both as a college and University teachers for sometimes. He worked in Agro-Economic Research Centre, Santiniketan; Rice Research Project, Govt, of West Bengal; Sundarban Development Board, Development and Planning Department, Govt. of West Bengal; Tea Board, India, Kolkata; UP State Planning Board, Lucknow; National Council of Applied Economic Research, New Delhi; India Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi. He joined as Agricultural Economist in Reserve Bank of India and switched to NABARD where he served as Faculty Member for 15 years in its training establishment. At present Dr. Banerjee is serving as Deputy General Manager cum Officer-in-Charge in NABARD Nagaland Regional Office. He published four books and contributed more than 200 papers in National and International Journal. He experienced both as academician and practitioner in the fields of agriculture, allied rural and social sectors.
