Technology Management: Concepts and Applications

Globalisation has forced organisations to look beyond the geographical and political boundaries of their countries. Competitive advantage has become a dynamic concept and a dominant factor in creating value for the customer. Country-level studies indicate that the major contributor of productivity growth is the multifactor productivity, also known as the technical change as termed by Solow. Country-level productivity growth is the manifestation of the productivity growth at the micro level. Technology is playing a much bigger role in the production front line. Under this perspective quality in Technology Management (TM) will be the factor for deciding as to who will be the winner in this type of business environment. Hence, managing technology becomes one of the key processes for an organisation. In this view, the articles have been chosen to give a total understanding of the process and insights of some key sub processes. It is a collection of thirteen articles covered in two sections: Concepts and Applications. The articles in the Concepts section give an overall understanding of the whole gamut of the management aspect of technology management, the process of TM, people aspect of TM, technology roadmapping and forecasting. The Applications section gives examples of aligning TM with business strategy, forecasting, vendor selection process and technology deployment.
