The first article of the book is "Why do Employees Leave Companies? – An Evaluation" authored by K B S Kumar, which makes a light reading on an important concept of ‘Employee Attrition’. The author obeserves that, While many organizations are oblivious of the reasons behind high employee turnover, there are a few companies which are considered lovable and ‘great places to work for’ by the employees. The article presents a hypothetical conversation between the manager of a company and an employee who has just resigned, which highlights a few significant aspects responsible for the rising levels of attrition. The next article "HR Strategy: To Attract, Train and Retain Employees" by Sandhya Mehta discusses how the role of HR has changed from a fire fighter administrator to a strategic business partner. The author puts forth her views on one of the most challenging tasks of HR, which is to attract and retain the potential prospective employees. The article presents a HR Model for attraction and retention and discusses in detail, some of the key areas proposed in the model, which include job analysis, the recruitment perspective, induction, training, creating performing culture, innovative compensation management system etc.
