Notwithstanding the existence of a few dictionaries pertaining to Indian mythology, modern studies on this subject as a separate discipline have called forth the necessity of bringing out a fresh volume on the same with new orientation and interpretation. The present volume shows that in ancient belief myth was not merely a symbolic narrative but a theme of conscious reflection of social reality.
