This book is a complete and systematic record of the whole available Dravidian vocabulary. It covers four major literary languages and some fourteen minor languages, a considerable amount of the material for which is here published for the first time. The dictionary is etymologically arranged and the vocabulary is classified into 4572 numbered items. Complete indexes for each language follow. The meanings are given as exhaustively as is practicable in such a work, so that the full range of the application of each word becomes evident. The dictionary is, with some exceptions, confined to the native Dravidian element to the exclusion of loans from Indo-Aryan. It is the first work of its kind that has been attempted, and it will be an indispensable tool to all those engaged in Dravidian linguistics and to Indian philology in general.
