An understanding of the various systems of education prevalent in the developed countries is necessary to acquire a perspective on the situation of optimal educational opportunities for all. In this background, the present publication attempts to detail the systems of education in the USA, the UK, France, Russia and India for a comparative study. The coverage is exhaustive, from pre-school and nursery stages to the primary, middle and secondary stages, and across the higher educational level, including research and vocational opportunities. The book thus covers the main segments of the entire spectrum of education and provides an opportunity for the study of the Indian system of education in this wider international perspective. Readers will be particularly interested in the sections dealing with teacher training and in service-training and learning opportunities provided in the different countries. The book will be of substantial use for all students of education, teacher-trainers, policy-makers and planners concerned with the redesigning of the educational system to meet the challenges of the rapidly changing social order.
