ABOUT THE AUTHOR Rati Chhapekar

Rati Chhapekar obtained a post-graduate degree in Sociology from the University of Bombay and a doctorate in the subject from the University of Delhi. Her area of speicalization is migrant communities in metropolitan cities. She has taught in colleges in Punjab, Gujarat and Maharashtra. She also attended a conference on Dimensions of Social Research in South Asian Minority Communities, held at the East-West Centre, Honolulu. She is presently Coordinator (Academic Exchange) with Academics for International Development (AID), based in Colombo, Chennai and Jakarta.
