Though, there is various biophysical farming constraints in arid and semi-arid regions of the country but these regions are also blessed with immense potential for production of quality fruits, vegetables, spices, medicinal and aromatic plants. Vast land resource, hardy agro-biodiveristy, easy access of agricultural laborers, better scope for utilization of solar and wind energy etc. are the other useful dimensions of these regions. However, meager efforts have been made to utilize untapped potential of these areas. Therefore, an attempt was made to compile the work done so far on production technologies of different arid and seminars fruit crops, which can be grown in hot and cold arid regions of the country. Moreover, very few fruit crops have been exploited commercially in these regions, thus the semi-arid crops (Chirounji, custard apple, tamarind, guava etc.), fruit crops of cold arid region (seabuck thron and temperate nuts) as well as some of the crops, which are not popular as table fruits (Khejri, Kumut, ker, Keinth, lasoda etc.) have also been included. We hope that this book “advances in Arid Horticulture Vol II†will serve as a reservoir for exploitation of useful information in future course of action by the scientist, teachers, students, policy makers and entrepreneurs.
