ABOUT THE AUTHOR Radha Devi

D. Radha Devi (b.1940) is a trained demographer working in the field of demography for almost four decades. She is a retired Professor from the International Institute for Population Sciences (IIPS), Mumbai, India and is currently an independent researcher. Before joining IIPS she served the Gandhigram Institute for Rural health and family Welfare Trust, Maduari, Tamil Nadu As senior Social Scientist and the university of kerala as senior research Assistant. She did her M.A. in Economics and M.Sc in Demography from the university of kerala, M.A. in Sociology from the university of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, North Carolina, U.S.A. and did her Ph.D. work in the Institute for Social and economic Change under Dr. V.K.R.V. Rao and obtained the degree from the university of Mysore. She is a co-author of the book entitled Role of Women’s Education in shaping Fertility in India: Evidence from National family Health Survey. Radha Devi has published many articles in the professional journals of India and outside and participated and presented papers in many national and International seminars and conferences. Her areas of interest relates mainly to different aspects of population and development particularly fertility and family planning, women’s studies, reproductive health, employment and unemployment.
