The very utterance of the name of Shri Gorakshanatha brings alive before our eyes the image of a giant personality who transformed the life of contemporary Indian masses and inspired them to follow the path of goodness, not only through his knowledge, but his own life and character.

The mini text entitled Amritavakyam is a collection of the preachings of Shri Gorakshanatha, written in Sanskrit. Scholars of the past and present who studied and researched Natha literature are, till date, unfamiliar with this invaluable, sacred text.

The essence of the text being presented is that, supreme bliss, in the search of which man is wandering here and there, in this world, cannot be attained through the fulfilment of desire for worldly objects. Genuine bliss exists within man himself. What is needed is that he should start moving towards the eternal bliss that lies deep within him. The only means of finding a solution to worldly sufferings is through knowledge — consciousness of the reality of this world and liberation from the mesh of illusions. In order to attain this, sensation of the soul-element and the supreme soul element is essential.

Through these preachings, Shri Gorakshanatha has tried to convey the message to the common masses that, man should understand the non-regularity and reality of this world and, through the practice of yoga, attain liberation from the cycle of birth and death and access his own image of Supreme Bliss. It is a state where there exists neither jubilation nor mourning, neither happiness nor sorrow, neither union nor parting, neither hunger nor thirst, neither dreams nor awakening. There exists under one umbrella the sovereignty of Supreme Bliss.

Sanskrit Text with English Translation.
