This book divided into seven sections –the literary movements, theories, trends, poetic forms, dramatic forms, dramatic forms, prose forms, prosody, figures, and practical criticism-covers almost all the major terrains for the background to the study of English literature. Though the book is least ambitious of claiming a complete originally, its significance lies in the up-to-date and extensive coverage, particularly, of the literary movements, trends, and forms dealt with in this study. It never tries to drop a veil over the complexity and ambiguity of any literary aspects included herein, but makes a sincere efforts to pinpoint their nature and concepts and problems, which are generally touched upon elusively. Hopefully, this book will prove most helpful to the students of English literature at all levels.
