Economics, as a subject, demands rigorous, often lengthy chains of reasoning. This book makes an humble attempt to expose the subject to the students in most concise, simple and straight way. It is designed to match the actual readiing and grasping spility of a student/layman with no previous knowledge of economic theory, who wish to learn its fundamentals systematically. Clarity, consistency and comprehensive are the main distinct features of the book. Each chapter starts with a preview and ends with a comprehensive summary of important points. It seeks to solve the problems of students tendency to memorise the tables and graphs in a more meaningful way by making them self explanatory. First two chapters deal with definition and fundamental concepts of economics. Chapters III & IV attempt to analyses consumers behaviour, whereas fifth and sixth chapters deal with producers behaviour. Market and product-pricing are dealt in chapter VII. Chapters eight to eleven deal with Rent, Wage, Interest & Profit. Then the macro terms like, , money, inflation, banks, national income are exposed in chapters 12 to 16. Leastly chapter XVII makes an exposition of various concepts of public Finance.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR Kumar B. Das
Dr. Kumar B. Das ( b. 1955) after obtaining M.A. (Applied Economics) from utkal University, joined presidency College , Calcutta as Research Fellow in 1978 and eventually he was awarded the Ph.D. Degree by Utkal University in 1984. To his credit he has about 25 research papers published in many reputed journals of India and abroad. He is the author of Cement Industry of India. He at5tended on a number of occasions Advanced Summer Institutes, seminars and Conferences in countries like Holland (1980), UK (1981), Italy (1984). He is a member of Royal Economic society (U.K.) and International Associations. His field of research interest covers Regional Economics, industrial Economics, Urban Economics. He is currently serving as Reader in the Department of Applied Economics of Utkal University where he is actively engaged in his post-doctoral research work.
