The Bangladesh Economy in Transition

Written against the backdrop of policy reforms in Bangladesh, this book addresses a number of developmental issues facing the country. The contributors–including Bangladesh’s leading economists, and those in policy-making positions–review policy initiatives and the performance of important sectors of the economy, notably agriculture, industry and the financial sector. The identify opportunities for Bangladesh in the context of growing regionalization, and explore policy options for the future. The issues that are addressed are endemic to the very process of economic development. Bangladesh is often cited as a ‘test case’ of development; the lessons that emerge are relevant to other developing countries as well.
