The art and science of producing genetically engineered animals have advanced in the past few years. It is now possible to generate animals with useful novel properties for dairy, meat or fibre production, for environmental control of waste production, that produce useful products for biomedical purposes or other human consumption or that are nearly identical copies of animals chosen for useful traits, such as milk or meat production, pie fertility and the like. ABOUT THE AUTHOR Florence Pariera-raja

Florence Periera-Raja has a doctorate in zoology from the University of Calgary, Canada. Her specialization is bovine disease and transgenic carrier mechanisms. She has been invited by the Government of two south-east Asian Nations for assistance in biotechnological research against the ‘bird flu’ virus. She is on a task force assigned for draught animal disease research. She is also adviser in Bovine Breeding Research to two state Governments.
